New poker site rapidly gains popularity among Latin American players
Burro Poker Actively Targets Latin American Players, One of The Poker World’s Fastest Growing Market Segments.
In recent years, Latin American players such as famed Costa Rican World Poker Tour (WPT) winner Alex Brenes and former Venezuelan National Champion Dorian Rios, have been taking the poker world by storm. In fact, the rapidly increasing popularity of poker amongst Latinos has led to a surge in the number of poker publications and websites that specifically target this growing market.
Burro Poker, one of the latest additions to the web’s growing number of online poker sites, was designed and developed specifically for Latin American and Latino players. Since it recent inception, Burro Poker has been capturing the attention of poker enthusiasts and aficionados throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as members of Spanish speaking communities in the United states. Other online poker companies are also watching closely as Burro’s player base continues to rapidly expand, thanks to an effective and broad reaching marketing campaign that specifically targets Hispanics.
Although Latin America is home to many fine casinos, and has long been a home to some fantastic local players in addition to serving as a frequent destination for international poker stars, it wasn’t until very recently that the popularity of the game really started to take off in the region. This recent surge in interest is due largely to the development of the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT). This international tour began in Brazil in 2008 and has since grown to include events hosted all over Latin America and the Caribbean, primarily in Spanish speaking countries.
The current season of the LAPT for example, includes tournaments in Costa Rica, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. In fact, today marked the start of one of the tour’s main events, being held in Punta del Este from February 24-27 of this year. This tournament has a total prize pool of over one million dollars and a total of three hundred and seven separate entries. The Mantra Casino and Resort is hosting the event, which will be televised throughout the region and is expected to draw millions of spectators from all over Latin America.
Although the Latin American Poker Tour draws players from all over the world, a large percentage of those who participate in the various events are themselves native Latin Americans. In fact, during this seasons last major event, held at the Paradisius Playa Conchal in Costa Rica’s Northwestern province of Guanacaste, a local player by the name of Rogelio Pardo came in third, taking home a total of over sixty thousand dollars in winnings. Pardo is just one of a growing number of Latin American players who are helping to increase the popularity of the game within the region. Because international poker events are widely publicized, it easy for Latino players to gain notoriety and inspire their fellow countrymen to follow in their footsteps.
In fact, Rogelio Pardo himself is following in the footsteps of three of his most well known compatriots, namely, Costa Rican poker pro Alex Brenes and his two older brothers, Humberto and Eric. Although Humberto is often referred to a “The Godfather of Costa Rican Players”, because of his sharply honed skills and wealth of professional poker experience, his baby brother Alex is no easy rival either. In fact, he has cashed a total of 22 times at the world series of poker, made it to three final tables, and finished runner up at one of them.
Homegrown heroes like Brenes, who now lives in Miami, are attracting new Latino players to the game each day. And it isn’t only Latin Americans that sites like Burro Poker are successfully targeting, but Hispanics living in the United States as well. As the most rapidly growing segment of the U.S. population, it won’t be long before Latinos are the majority north of the border, just as they currently are south of it. That’s why companies like Burro Poker en línea are expected to be hugely successful in years to come.
